LED technology has revolutionized commercial lighting and residential lighting in recent years. From incandescent filament bulbs to LED lighting, there are several decades of uninterrupted technological evolution. The advantages of LED technology and LED luminaires are many:
1. Very long service life
The lifespan of an incandescent bulb is 1000 hours. The lifespan of an LED is 50,000 hours, but it can reach 100,000 hours, depending on how it is operated. A simple calculation indicates that an LED profile can operate without any intervention between 6 and 12 years, ie 50-100 times more than a conventional lighting system.
2. Clearly superior energy efficiency
If all the lighting in an office were replaced with LED lighting, the energy savings would be 60-70%, but it could go up to 90%, depending on the LED lighting chosen and lighting fixtures that are replaced. Any business or individual will benefit financially in the long run by installing LED profiles to replace a conventional lighting system.
3. Ecological lighting solution
Business sustainability is an increasingly important topic for customers of products and services who want to minimize their carbon footprint by all possible means, including the purchases they make. Attracting a customer base for whom sustainability is important is a solid business strategy, which can be started by replacing the lighting system with an LED lighting system.
4. Ability to perform better at low temperatures
Compared to fluorescent luminaires, LED luminaires behave much better at low temperatures, both in terms of energy consumption and light intensity. That’s why LED luminaires are preferred when it comes to lighting refrigerated spaces and refrigerated display cases. Also, LED lighting fixtures are the perfect choice for underground parking lots, above ground parking lots, architectural lighting or public space lighting.
5. Increased design flexibility
Unlike classic luminaires, LED profiles have the great advantage of being able to be configured exactly to customer specifications. Linear LED profiles can draw light bands, luminescent geometric figures, or more generally, anything imaginable in the human mind. There is no limit. This is where standalone LED lighting fixtures can be born, which can be a good starting point for any light design project.
6. Instant lighting and the ability to withstand frequent interruptions
A fluorescent luminaire needs a “warm-up” period, during which time its light performance is much lower. Unlike classic luminaires, LED luminaires light up instantly at 100% power. Moreover, LED luminaires are not affected by frequent lighting and switching off, which makes them ideal for being placed in series with motion sensors, in places that need to be lit only when someone is present.
7. Ability to adjust light intensity
LED luminaires can work very well at any percentage of voltage between 5% and 100%. This can result in new and special visual effects, as well as further reductions in electricity consumption.
8. Directionality of the light beam
All conventional luminaires emit light around the source, at 360 degrees. If light reflection solutions are not used, some of this light is lost and energy is lost. LED profiles light up 120 degrees around the source, making them ideal for installation on walls and in places where directional or receding lighting is needed.
9. Low voltage operation
LED luminaires are powered at 220V, with 12v / 24v / 1-10v DALI / TRIAC LED strip transformer, with IP 20 / IP65 / IP67, unlike conventional luminaires, which are connected to the 220v mains without possibilities of protection in case of voltage drops, or water infiltrations.
